Researching Health Policy and Practice
Research into the health and social sciences is crucial in enhancing the quality of health care available to patients throughout all stages in their journey through our health and social care system. However research into these areas is still relatively new and, as a result, rapidly developing in both capacity and quality. To ensure research is not hindered and continues to push forward the boundaries of research into these fields the School of Health Science created and launched the Institute for Health Research.
Expertise within the Institute for Health Research is divided into five distinct areas reflecting the multi-disciplinary nature of research in health and social care. Underpinning all research activity is a strong base of expertise in a variety of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, covering disciplines such as policy and service evaluation, literature reviews, ethnographic studies and action research. These are directed to creating wide-ranging collaborative links with national and international partners, in academic institutions, provider and commissioning agencies to enable leading edge research to be taken forward effectively and in relevant situations.
The Institute has focussed its expertise into five fields of research: the biosciences, health economics, philosophy of health care, research into health care practices, and the organisation of health care.
