Introduction to the University's Research Groups
The University’s thriving research community is driven by the enthusiasm to push back the frontiers of scientific and academic discovery.
At the heart of the community is an effective and well-managed network of inter-related, Interdisciplinary Research Centres and Groups, established to provide a stimulating and dynamic academic environment. As a focus for some of the most innovative research produced by the University, the Groups undertake a wide range of research activities.
Each Group draws on a strong commitment to stimulate high quality research and therefore enhances the University’s potential for research at the interfaces between traditional disciplines. Softening the boundaries between academic subject areas enables staff with expertise in different fields to explore radical new concepts and to take their research in directions that may not otherwise have been considered.
The Interdisciplinary Research Centres and Groups add immense value to the University’s research activity. At present there are over 30 Centres, with several more currently being developed.
