Need to find accommodation for the new academic year? We can help you find both somewhere to live, and other postgrads to live with.
If you’ve applied for postgraduate study here at Swansea and are planning to move to the city, finding somewhere to live during your studies is probably high on your list of priorities. The task of finding a house to rent for the coming year can be daunting, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the city, don’t live locally or simply don’t have a group of fellow students with whom to share.
To make things as easy as possible for you, we run an annual two-day event dedicated to helping you find both housemates and postgraduate accommodation. House Hunting provides you with the opportunity to meet and get to know other students embarking on postgraduate programmes in September. Free accommodation is provided in University halls, so that you and your new housemates - guided and advised by our experts in Residential Services - can research available private sector accommodation, book property viewings and visit potential lets.
Our house hunting event is just for incoming postgraduates, and takes away the stress of finding somewhere to live in a new city.
This year's House Hunting event took place on Friday 13th – Saturday 14th August 2010. Details of House Hunting 2011 will be posted online in the new year; until then, details of the 2010 event can be found below to give you an idea of how House Hunting works.
Who can benefit from House Hunting?
House Hunting is intended for those of you who have received an offer of a place to study at Swansea, and now need to find accommodation in shared private sector housing. The aim of the event is to enable incoming postgraduates to meet one another, and to look for accommodation together in groups. As House Hunting participants in the main utilise the University's own letting agency (which represents multiple occupancy student housing), those looking for single occupancy accommodation would be better served by contacting independent letting agencies in Swansea rather than attending the event.
The University covers the cost of your overnight stay at the University during the event, and so only Swansea University offer-holders are able to attend.
Housemate Hunting: House Hunting provides an opportunity for those of you coming to live in Swansea to find other incoming postgraduates with whom to live. By attending informal welcome events, including ice-breaker activities and the chance to mingle and socialise with other participants, you will get to know others in a similar situation and hopefully form groups with whom to search for accommodation.
House Hunting: After finding housemates, you are then able to search for suitable accommodation and view properties. Residential Services will provide lists of available private sector houses which they represent, but the house hunting aspect of the event is undertaken fairly independently by participants and you may wish to utilise other letting agencies within Swansea also.

House Hunting takes place over two days early in August. Accommodation is provided on campus, as are the welcome activities and the initial stages of your property search.
Day 1: Participants collect their keys from the accommodation reception and undertake campus tours. Participants are then invited to attend a 'housemate-hunting' afternoon on campus, intended to help you find a group of fellow postgraduates with whom to search for accommodation the following day.
Day 2: House hunting takes place on the following day – staff from Residential Services are available from 9:00 am onwards on campus to provide lists of available private sector accommodation, as well as facilities for you to book viewings with local landlords.
Booking forms and details of the event are automatically sent to all new UK postgraduate offer-holders. The event, however, is open to all new and returning postgraduates, and booking forms can also be downloaded. These will be made available online from May onwards.
