Thirty-five years after its formal opening in 1975, the Centre for Development Studies will close on 30 July 2010 and its remaining academic staff will transfer to other departments and Schools in the university. In addition, the current Director of CDS, Prof Neil Price, will retire at the end of March 2010.
Development Studies teaching and research will continue in Swansea University but under a new guise. From 1 August 2010, it will be based primarily in the Department of Political & Cultural Studies in the School of Arts & Humanities, although development studies staff in the department will maintain their links to colleagues in the other departments and schools.
In the 2010/11 academic year, the Department of Political & Cultural Studies will offer a number of taught post-graduate degree schemes with a substantial development studies content, as part of its offering in Politics, International Relations, and PPE:

Students with interests in the taught postgraduate programmes currently offered by the Centre for Development Studies are encouraged to apply for admission to one of these three programmes.
In addition, the Department offers other taught postgraduate degree programmes that allow students to take elective modules in development studies.
